ContractingPipe Freezing is a simple non-intrusive cost saving method to perform pipe maintenance or line modification.  The major advantage is the "work" can be performed without incurring the cost and down-time of a complete system drain down.  It's environmentally friendly eliminating potential hazards caused by draining liquids.  It shortens system downtime.  It's cost effective.  With Pipe Freezing there's no loss of expensive liquids.  The process also reduces labor and material costs for repairs and alterations.
During the pipe freezing process a jacket is fitted around the pipe and liquid nitrogen is introduced into the jacket to freeze the contents of the pipe liquid nitrogen has a temperature of -320 degrees and continuous evaporation, which takes place within the jacket.  Heat is absorbed and in natural evaporation through exposed to air maintaining the plug in its frozen form, while replacement, maintenance or repair work takes place. Once work is completed the system can be pressure tested to the ice plug.

Valve Replacement:

  • System maintenance
  • Modifications Pressure Testing
  • Fire System maintenance

Pipe Freezing can be performed on a variety of pipes, including but not limited to:

  • Carbon Steel
  • Stainless Steel
  • Transite
  • Cast & Ductile Iron
  • Aluminium
  • Coated & Lined Pipe
  • Copper
  • Lead
  • Titanium
  • 3/8" to 48" OD
  • Vertical, Horizontal, Inclined out of Round

The freezing process time varies, depending on the size of the freeze and its contents.  Download our PFS brochure here. You can also call us at 847-838-8882, or click here to request a quote.
